Week of 2/29

In order to celebrate we will be participating in Spirit Week!
Monday: Stripes Day
Tuesday: Silly Sox Day
Wednesday: Dress up as your favorite Dr. Seuss character
Thursday: Crazy Hat Day *Also Early Release*
Friday: Mismatch Day

Read 25 mins. each night
Book Club Summary/Thinking- each night
Math Practice- each night
Vocab. #6- Homework: Thurs./ Quiz- Fri.

Learning This Week:

Math: We will finish up Topic 10 (dividing by 1-digit divisors) and move onto Topic 11(Fraction Equivalence) by the end of this week.
Writing: We will finish up our mystery narratives and begin reading about, "Wacky Shoes." Students will use evidence from the story to write their own narrative about if they had wacky shoes.
S.S/Science: We will continue to learn about the cause and effect of weathering and erosion, We will begin learning about the rock cycle.
ELA: Students are continuing to work on their immigration CEPA- They are using research notes to create an informational book about immigration. We will be printing pictures in the computer lab as well as finish typing the "About the Author" section.

Week of 2/22

Book Club Chapter Summary- Each night

Learning:
Math: We will continue to divide with 2 and 3-digit numbers in Topic 10.
Writing: We will be finishing up a creative, narrative piece of writing focusing on the five elements of literature. In addition, we will be close reading and responding to open responses using organizers.
Science: We will start learning about weathering and erosion and how it affects the Earth's surface as well as how to control erosion.
ELA: We will continue to research and take notes on Immigration. We will organize our notes using a flow chart to develop our own books.

Valentine's Day Card Exchange- Friday 1/12
Vocabulary Quiz #8- Friday (We will NOT start Vocab. #7 this week)
Book Club- Record summary and reading thinking EACH night


Learning:

Math: We will be testing on Topic 9 (dividing with remainders, estimating quotients) and begin Topic 10 (Dividing by 1-Digit Divisors)
Writing: We will be writing a Valentine's Day narrative piece, focusing on the five literary elements (characters, setting, problem, solution, message)
Science/ S.S- We will finish map skills and begin reading about fossils.
ELA: We will be reading closely to take notes about Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. Students will be using flow charts to organize notes and summarize information.

Week of 2/1

Reminders for the Week:

*We are kicking off our first ever book club! Students are required to read a chapter each night, record a quick summary, and record one piece of reading thinking to share the next day.

Learning this Week:

Math: We will continue to estimate quotients as well as divide with remainders in Topic 9. We may test on Friday depending upon student learning.
Writing: Students will be writing in response to an open response question about Louis Braille. In addition, we will be watching, "Because of Winn-Dixie" while comparing and contrasting the movie and the book. We will also be learning about how to use accountable talk when we are having book club discussions.
Science/Social Studies: We will finish up learning about how to read a map and where countries/continents are located.
Reading: We will continue taking notes and reading about Ellis Island. We will learn how to summarize our notes by using a flow chart.
