Learning this Week
Math: Students will review addition and subtraction of mixed numbers (we will test on Thursday). In addition, we will be starting Topic 10 (Multiplication of Fractions). Students will be multiplying fractions by using models and fraction strips.

Science: Students will be exploring renewable and nonrenewable sources of energy. We will discuss the importance of conserving natural resources and identify ways we use them in our daily lives. Students will complete an exploration on DisocveryEd about fossil fuels and discover the importance of using it wisely.

Learning this Week:

Math: Students will be using models, number lines, and mathematical thinking to add and subtract mixed numbers with like denominators. If time allows, we will test on fractions before vacation. We will also complete an activity on Valentine's Day to identify fractions as "part of a set"


Science: Students will be completing a Valentine's Day Mystery Science this week. We will finish up our thinking unit on fossils and the way they impact the environment as we begin to discuss and read about fossil fuels.

Learning this Week: 
Math: We will be strengthening our ability to compare fractions by using a variety of strategies. Students will also be adding and subtracting fractions with like denominators. We will also be converting mixed numbers and improper fractions. 

Science: Students will be focusing on the question, "How do fossils form?" and "What can fossils tell us about the past?" Students will complete a mystery science on fossils.
