Week of 11/27

Learning this Week:

Math: This week we will begin Topic 5 (Divide by 1 Digit Numbers). Students will be estimating quotients as well as using manipulatives and strategies to solve division problems. 

Science/S.S: Students will continue to learn note-taking strategies. Each student will be assigned a U.S. Region. Notes will include information about the region's culture, land, water, industries, and natural resources. In science, students will continue to learn about the effects of earthquakes through DiscoveryEd.

Week of 11/13

Learning this Week:

Math: Students will continue to learn strategies for multiplying two digit numbers by two- digit numbers. They will use the area model, partial products method, and distributive property. Depending on student learning, we may review and finish Topic 4 by the end of this week. Please continue to practice fact fluency at home! 

Science/S.S.: Students will be learning how to take notes on the U.S. Regions. Each student will be assigned one of the five regions. In Science, we will begin learning about Earthquakes by reading and discussing our essential questions.

Learning this Week: 

Math: This week we are moving forward with multiplication. We will begin topic 4 (2 Digit by 2 Digit Multiplication). Students will multiply two digit numbers by multiples of 10 (i.e. 60 x 14) and use models to show their conceptual understanding of partial products. Students will estimate answers for reasonableness and use the array method to solve problems. 

Science: This week we have our mystery state Skype session! On Tuesday, students will Skype with a mystery state and guess their location by formulating questions and using a map. In addition, we will begin our region research by observing the Northeast Region.
