Learning this Week:

Math: We will be wrapping up Topic 1 (Place Value). Students will be expected to know how to read, write, expand, and round numbers through one million. We will complete a review in class and a review for homework. Students will take the Topic 1 Assessment online through Pearson Realize. In addition, we will practice center rotations, get familiarized with Prodigy (online math game), and discuss problem solving. 

Science: Students will be exploring landforms by watching videos and completing online games and activities. In addition, we will read articles, analyze landforms on maps, and record findings about our essential questions in our science notebooks (see below). 

Essential Questions:
What is a landform?
What are some different landforms?
What are features of some landforms?
How are landforms formed?
How do landforms change over time?

Learning this Week:

Math: We will continue with Topic 1 (Place Value). Students will be rounding numbers through one million. In addition, they will reinforce their understanding of place value, periods, expanded form, and number name through games, small group, and activities.  We will also be using the tablets to setup Prodigy accounts and take our beginning of year, online math assessment. 

Science: We will discuss and read about the scientific method. Students will conduct an experiment practicing the steps. In addition, we will use the tablets to explore Discovery Ed science for the first time. 


Other: We are currently reading aloud, I Survived: 9/11. We have also been introduced to our first set of weekly vocabulary words that will be used in our free write journals.

Week of 9/11

Math: We are off to a great start with Topic 1 (Place Value)! This week, we will begin incorporating division and multiplication games into our learning. In addition, students are using math vocabulary to read and write numbers through a million. We will also start to compare numbers according to their place value.
