Week of 11/28

Good morning! I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving break!

Learning this Week: 
Writing: We will be working on our opinion writing piece. Students will be learning how to include research in their writing as well as develop organized, clear paragraphs. We will practice using transitional words too.
Math: We will be finishing up Topic 4 (multiplying two-digit numbers by two-digit numbers) and take out Topic test on Friday. 
ELA: We will continue to research our assigned regions. Students will take notes using multiple sources, including internet, books, and articles. We will also begin using map skills.
Science/S.S: We will be learning about Pangaea and the formation of the continents.

Week of 11/21

Good morning!

Reminders for the Week:

Learning this Week:
Writing: We will be completing persuasive writing about our turkey projects. Students will convince the reader that they are NOT a turkey and that the reader should eat something else. We will practice organized paragraphs and fluent sentences.
Math: We will continue with Topic 4, multiplying two-digit by two-digit numbers. We will practice with all methods including, area model, distributive property, partial products, and standard form.
ELA: We will continue to highlight and take notes on important information. All students have been assigned a specific region to study and take notes on. We will complete a First Thanksgiving reader's theater this week too.
Science/S.S: We will discuss the scientific method and complete a science lab. We will finish layers of the Earth and start weathering and erosion after Thanksgiving.

Learning this Week: 
Writing: We will brainstorm and organize ideas for our opinion writing piece. We will craft strong leads and use the tablets to conduct research that we include in our piece. 
Math: We will start Topic 4, which is multiplying two-digit by two-digit numbers. We will estimate, discuss "reasonableness" and continue to use all multiplication methods. 
ELA: We will learn how to take notes by highlighting and reading about the Northeast region. We will disucss important vs. interesting. Students will be assigned a specific region and I will model an "investigation."
Science/S.S: We will complete a science lab pertaining to landforms, weathering, and erosion. Students will all work on map activities.

Week of 11/7

Learning this Week:
Math: We will work on solving multiple step word problems as well as practice drawing bar diagrams to solve multiplication problems. We will review on Monday and Wednesday. We will test on Topic 3 for Thursday.
Writing: We will learn the difference between fact and opinion, as well as learn what an informed opinion is. Students will begin organizing ideas for opinion writing piece.
ELA: We will learn about what an investigation is. I will model using our school and students will be assigned a state project to complete an investigation at home. We will start taking notes within our assigned region.
S.S/Science: We will begin learning about the layers of the Earth as well as move into the difference between erosion, deposition, and weathering.

Week of 10/31

Learning this Week:
Writing: We will be completing our first opinion response using evidence from a Scholastic News article. We will learn about the structure of opinion writing and brainstorm ideas for our opinion writing piece. 
Math: We will be finishing up all lessons in Topic 3 by Friday. The rest of this topic will include multiplying a one-digit number by a four digit number. It will also include solving word problems and using a bar diagram to represent the equation.
ELA: We will be starting Unit 2, the U.S Regions. We will review the essential questions, such as "How does where you live influence how you live?" and "What causes people to live where they do?" Students will be coloring a map of the regions along with a key. We will be learning how to take notes and how to research. 
S.S/Science: Most of our S.S is embedded through our ELA. We will wrap up landforms and bodies of water while learning about the regions.
