Week of April 25

Good morning and welcome back!

Learning this week:
Math: We will be wrapping up Topic 13 (Fractions and Decimals) and test on Thursday this week. We will be reviewing previously learned concepts and possibly perimeter
Writing: Students will be writing personal narratives to reflect on their vacation week. We will also be writing free-verse poems and will review all the different types of figurative language.
Science: We will begin looking at the different types of animal adaptations.
ELA: We will continue to research for our biography project and continue to look closely at timelines and character traits.

Week of 4/11

Learning this Week:
Math: We will be starting Topic 13 (Extending Fraction Concepts). Students will be multiplying fractions and comparing equivalent fractions and decimals.
Writing: We will work on making text connections through our read aloud, The Marvelous Adventures of Edward Tulane. In addition, we will be reviewing the different types of figurative language and write our own free verse poems. We will also answer some prep questions for PARCC.
Science: We will continue to compare and contrast two articles about ocean animals and the ways they are impacted by their environment. Students will turn Venn diagrams into explanatory writing pieces.
ELA: Students will be typing up pourquoi tales in the computer lab. We will start our research this week on our biographies as I model researching by using Jackie Robinson.

Week of 4/4

Learning this Week:
Math: We will wrap up Topic 12 this week and will test on Thursday/Friday. This topic was focused on the addition and subtraction of fractions and whole numbers.
Writing: We will be finished our opinion writing prompts. In addition, we will start a writing piece that requires students to compare and contrast two informational (non-fiction) texts.
Science: We will be reading about endangered animals and the different types of text structures.
ELA: We are starting our new unit, "Biographies" We will begin by looking at variety of biographies and students will prepare their research materials!
