Week of 1/25

Happy Monday!

Reminders for the week:
Thursday 1/28 - Early Release

Vocab. homework- Thurs. / Quiz- Fri.

*This afternoon, we have the Museum of Traveling Science coming to do a presentation on animal adaptions using real, wild animals!


ELA: We will continue researching immigration- We will be taking notes, watching videos, and learning more about the immigrants that came through Ellis Island.
Writing: We will continue discussing the different meanings of prefixes and suffixes. We will be categorizing the three different tiers of word.
Math: We will take our multiplication (Topic 5-8) benchmark assessment on Tuesday. We will be starting division this week (Topic 9) as well as start unpacking PARCC math problems.
Science/ Social Studies: We will wrap up learning about the cause and effects of tsunamis and earthquakes. We will begin practicing map skills as well as look at animal adaptations in conjunction with our assembly.

Poetry Book Slip- ASAP (send in forms by Friday even if you are NOT purchasing our class poetry book)
POOL ON MONDAY! Don't forget: two towels, comb, sandals, bag, and a change of clothes 


ELA- We have just started our new unit of study on immigration. We will be reading, Coming to America, discussing vocabulary, and begin taking notes as we start researching in the classroom and computer lab.
Writing-We will finish up open response writing pieces and start discussing prefixes and suffixes.
Math- We will be wrapping up Topic 8 and continue practicing the different two-digit multiplication strategies.
Science- We will be wrapping up learning about the cause and effect of earthquakes and tsunamis

Week of 1/11

Bill Harley Concert Event will be at 6:30 on Thursday in the HBB auditorium


ELA- We will be reading and analyzing the myth, How the Birds got their Feathers by: Joseph Bruchac. We will be taking notes and formulating open response answers using details from the story.
Writing- We will wrap up poetry this week by creating our own metaphor books, based on the book, Misery is a Smell in your Backpack by: Jennifer Rapp. In addition, we will finish our concrete poems while reading and making inferences about poetry.
Math- As we start Topic 8, our focus will be on multiplying two-digit numbers by two-digit numbers using a variety of methods.
Science- This week, we will wrap up volcanoes by taking notes on Bill Nye and begin learning about the formation of earthquakes and tsunamis.

Happy New Year 4th grade families! 

One of my resolutions this year is to keep families updated on learning that is happening within the classroom. My plan is to update the blog frequently with reminders, class photos, and quick updates about the content we're working on.

Learning: 

ELA/Writing: We are currently reading and writing about all different types of poetry- this week we are focusing on bio-poems, color poems, and concrete poems. In addition, we are focusing on figurative language and currently reading "Love That Dog" as a class.

Science:  We are currently learning about Volcanoes (different types, how they're formed) 

Math: This week we are wrapping up Topic 7, which focuses on estimating 2-digit multiplication. A review homework will be assigned on Thursday.
